Last week, the Biden administration instituted a two-week flight restriction, conveniently around Del Rio, Texas, which is exactly where Fox News had been operating a drone to take pictures of the border crisis. Thousands of people have been crossing the border each day because of Biden’s lax immigration policies, and Fox News had been providing vital journalism on the growing chaos at our southern border. It’s no wonder the FAA, under Team Biden’s direction, would prefer that no one see these images.

At the ACU, we are working tirelessly to make sure our Constitution is protected, including the all-important freedom of the press. This latest stunt from the Biden Administration shows that President Biden is more interested in silencing the media than he is in addressing the out-of-control border situation.

Join us this week in voicing your opposition to this transparent political game. Let your elected officials know that this type of behavior is damaging for our system of accountable government, and to our cherished right to a free press.

Here’s a round-up of everything we worked on last week:

Nolan Center for Justice

ACU General Counsel and Director of the ACUF Nolan Center for Justice David Safavian has an op-ed in the Montgomery Advertiser about how the justice system treats juveniles. In Alabama, too many kids are taken from their families for minor instances of misconduct. While those who pose a danger to their communities require incarceration, David makes the case that tearing a child away from his/her family should be the last resort, not the first. Moreover, data indicates that aside from the most serious of conduct, putting a minor into the juvenile system does not reduce crime. But it does cost a lot, and thus, robs more effective criminal justice program of much needed funding.
