John,
When a mother sends her young daughter alone to the U.S. border we know it’s not because she wants to--it’s because she must. It’s because the threat of danger at home is worse than the pain and suffering of saying farewell. It’s because this mother believes in the promise that our nation will welcome her daughter with dignity.
John, if you believe like we do that everyone has the right to be safe and everyone has the right to seek asylum, we need you to pitch in with your most generous donation today to double down on our promise to welcome families and children with dignity:
Right now, children and families who risked their lives in search of safety and a place to call home are in imminent danger.
Just this month, the Supreme Court upheld Trump’s cruel Remain in Mexico policy, which banishes families and children to dire tent cities in Mexico as they await their asylum cases. This means that families seeking asylum in the U.S. must continue to live in the shadow of dangerous cartels and unsanitary conditions at the southern border.
To make matters worse, families from Afghanistan are still fighting for their right to survive and are being housed at military bases like Fort Bliss, which has a proven track record of abuse and negligence.
That’s why Families Belong Together has been leading a cross-movement Welcome with Dignity campaign to transform the way the United States receives and protects people forced to flee their homes to ensure they are treated humanely and fairly. We’re ramping up our efforts this month, which is why I need to hear it from you now:
If the last few weeks have shown us anything, it’s that we live in a world where people have no option but to leave their homes to avoid persecution and violence. We can’t change that reality, but we can change how we receive and welcome people who turn to us in their darkest hour. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to welcoming families and children with dignity.
