Hi Reader,

Today begins ProPublica’s fall member drive. For the next two weeks, I’ll be checking in with you, explaining how we operate as a newsroom, highlighting some of our best stories and hopefully convincing you to join us with a donation to support our critical work.

ProPublica is a nonprofit, investigative newsroom, and we have a singular mission: to produce deep-dive, well-researched, nonpartisan journalism that spurs real-world change. We’re not subsidized by one wealthy owner or donor, and we have no shareholders looking to make a profit off our work. Our journalism is a public service, and we are funded largely with donations from more than 40,000 individuals just like you.
