Run by volunteer members, for membersWelcome to our weekly newsletter about mental health services and support available in Barnet and beyond. Also bringing you updates on Inclusion Barnet mental health news.
A tribute to JasonMany of you reading this UPDATE will remember Jason McCarthy from either Space2B days or his involvement with Art Reach -patiently teaching or helping people to navigate information on a computer or just chatting with people over cup of tea. Sadly he passed 4 years ago on 24 September and some of us thought we’d like to gather to remember him so feel free to join us on: Saturday 25 September from 3pm -Stephens House (either in the
café or the seating area facing the grounds) 17 East End Rd, London N3 3QE Bus routes that stop nearby are: 13,125, 143,326,460. The nearest tube is Finchley Central on the Northern Line. As the then Co-ordinator of Barnet Voice Jason became my absolute go-to for anything to do with computers - especially with our frequent moves between different offices. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He gave his time freely and with a smile and he spent hours developing our
website. His creativity on that took our breath away. I could write much more but I think the piece below, written by Sandra Turner, encapsulates what so many of us felt about him. It would be lovely to see you Stephens House on the 25th - Elsie Lyons. Jason had a big heart. He was like a “big brother” to me in that he was taller and a hug from him was like a hug from a teddy bear. He came to visit me at the recovery house in Palmer’s Green and took me to Starbucks for coffee and cake. When I came home, we met regularly for coffee and “put the world to rights”, had a laugh and a moan about things. Jason and Robert Johnson were good friends and had a mutual love of “The Sweeney” series, even calling themselves, in fun, Reagan (John Thaw) and Carter (Dennis
Waterman). Jason meant a lot of things to a lot of people. He was always available to help out with IT hic-cups. I loved him and still miss him - Sandra
