Last week, I confidently endorsed Bernie Sanders for President. In Bernie, we have the opportunity to elect the most progressive candidate as President of the United States.

It is easy to recognize. The same progressive movement we have built to successfully campaign for a Democratic majority in the State Senate will continue shaping national politics. This is what my endorsement is all about.

I am pushing for a political agenda that fights for our diverse community of immigrants, middle-class families, seniors, teachers, students and LGBTQ+ coalitions.

My legislative accomplishments for New Yorkers this past session must be true for the rest of the nation. Protecting delivery cyclists, car washers, farmworkers and every single migrant worker. Increasing investment in green infrastructure and creating a green economy. Continuing the fight to end the decriminalization of poverty.

Over 25,000 supporters came out to Queensbridge Park for a shared vision that is equitable. As I stood with six of my colleagues on-stage, I was humbled by the crowds’ chants of “New York Squad!”

Sadly, there are folks on TV that believe any squad supporting Bernie might be “too urban”. To CNN’s John King I say, heck no! We need more folks just like you, who believe that our district and our state truly represent the future.
