Gov. Abbott’s near-total abortion ban is a horrendous attack on choice – but the Supreme Court’s refusal to block it foreshadows a further erosion of reproductive freedom. Their ruling shows that the conservative majority Court is willing to upend our constitutional rights on a whim, and could very well overturn Roe v. Wade entirely. And now Republican officials in more than half a dozen states are seeking to replicate those heinous restrictions! In the face of this injustice, Democratic governors are the BEST firewall against conservative legislatures pushing through similar bans.
Here’s what happens next:
The Department of Justice has filed an EMERGENCY motion to block enforcement of Texas’s near total abortion ban.
Next week, House Democrats led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi will take up the Women's Health Protection Act to protect reproductive freedoms and to defend health care providers’ ability to provide abortion services.
