John,
Yesterday, we honored the one year anniversary of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was a role model for so many, including Katie, and her passing brought grief and fear about the future of abortion access in the United States.
Justice Ginsburg represented a brick wall on the Supreme Court for protecting abortion access—activists everywhere knew as long as she was on the Court, Roe v. Wade would be safe.
But after her passing, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell forced through their extremist, right-wing judge, Amy Coney Barrett—a staunch anti-choice and anti-abortion advocate.
Now, one year later, we’ve seen the harmful effects of Trump’s Supreme Court. Texas’ horrible anti-abortion law not only bans abortion before most people know they’re pregnant, but it also allows complete strangers to interfere with the private health decisions of Texas women—and be rewarded $10,000 for doing so. To make matters worse, state legislatures across the country are introducing similar bills.
We can’t let this happen, John.
John, there is no economic security without bodily autonomy. That’s one reason why Katie has always committed to fighting any efforts by Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, restrict access to birth control, or ban the right to abortion.
There’s no other way around it: We need federal abortion protections—and we need it now.
In solidarity,
Katie Porter for Congress
