Yesterday, I was attacked twice on Fox's right-wing propaganda network for questioning how a wellness check resulted in a death sentence for Atatiana Jefferson.

As a country, we need to have a real, open discussion about major policy shifts that recognize and prevent the racial bias that has resulted in the death of so many in our black and brown communities.

We need real reforms to the system, reforms we know work because a number of countries have already begun enacting with them great success. We need a country with fewer guns and more hospitals, no new jails and all new schools -- we need to build a system that nurtures and rehabilitates rather than murders and incarcerates.

We will never have that change if we have representatives in Congress who are fine with the status quo. That's why we need a representative who will stand up for what is right.
