Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Evening,

I had another busy week at home in Arizona! I kicked off the week with three days of hearings in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. I also met with constituents and spoke with parents about the importance of fighting for their children and monitoring what is happening in their local schools. It was so inspiring to see so many parents fired up and ready to take action for their families!

Energy and Commerce Committee

This week, I attended a markup in the Energy and Commerce Committee on Democrats' $3.5 trillion tax and spending spree budget reconciliation package. I introduced amendments to prohibit any dollars from going to companies owned or controlled by China, to prohibit the Taliban from using major social media platforms, to ensure taxpayer dollars are not used for abortion, and to require that clean energy technology comes from the United States as opposed to China. Democrats opposed them all. Despite these setbacks, I am proud to let you know that my colleagues and I successfully blocked Nancy Pelosi’s radical socialist drug pricing plan. This is a huge win for innovation and Americans seeking cures to disease.

Legislative Update

This week, I joined Representative Tom Emmer (R-MN) in expressing concerns to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA), Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner Charles Rettig regarding their proposal to increase tax information reporting requirements on banks that could require them to report customers’ withdrawals and deposits over $600. I am concerned that the IRS would not be able to keep new data safe from cyber-attacks, and that this proposal would infringe on the privacy of millions of Americans who have bank accounts. You can read the full letter here.

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office because she had not yet received her 2020 tax return from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Our office reached out to the IRS and was able to process her pending tax return. This resulted in a refund being issued to the constituent.
