Trump-loving, right-wing sheep claim to be flocking to Washington again today to rally IN SUPPORT OF THE INSURRECTIONISTS! This is lunacy! This is not our democracy.
As I said on January 7th that bears repeating again today, it is our solemn duty to vote out hate and injustice, and against those who seek to perpetuate it. It is our duty to protect our democracy, and carry out the will of the American people, just as we did into the late night of January 6th and into the wee morning hours of January 7th.
Upholding your values in Congress and representing your voice is the most important servitude of my lifetime. You can always count on me to do my job as your Congresswoman. Always.

Subject: Appalled but Undaunted
At 1 PM ET yesterday, my fellow members of Congress and I began the ministerial process of certifying the Electoral College results. It’s a time-honored formality that Congress has performed for 130 years. I applaud my fellow Members, both Democrat and Republican, including Vice President Pence, who fulfilled their job of upholding the Constitution and the oath that they took to defend it.
In the face of an unprecedented attack on our democracy, we carried out the will of the people. I am proud to say that Congress confirmed Joseph R. Biden will be our next President and Kamala D. Harris will be our next Vice-President. At roughly 4 am EST, there was the formal recognition of the changing administrations.
However, what should have been a given formality was turned into an ugly and deadly act of domestic terrorism yesterday at the United States Capitol. And the actions of these violent looters at the Capitol were incited by Donald Trump in concert with numerous of his close, radical, right-wing Republican friends.
I am appalled by what transpired yesterday so I am calling for all involved to be held accountable, including the President. Our sacred institutions which have anchored this country for nearly three centuries are on the verge of crumbling if there is not accountability for the chaos of the last 4 years. Never again can we allow the likes of Donald Trump and those who espouse such beliefs to seek elected office. It is our solemn duty to ensure that we vote out hate and injustice and vote against those who perpetrate it. When their names appear on the ballot, we must vote.
It is not lost on me or anyone with a conscience, that Trump used the United States Military against US citizens when he was concerned about the defamation of racist monuments during the Black Lives Matter protests. Yet, when the United States Capitol, the core institution of our hallowed government, is under attack, he instructed the Defense Department to deny the request to deploy the DC National Guard. He and his ilk would rather burn our Republic to the ground than admit defeat at the will of the people.
January 20th will come and we will inaugurate a new President and Vice President and we will do so with a Democratic Majority in the House and Senate. We will build again and we will repair. And in the words of scripture, ….weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Representing you is an honor, and nothing will prevent me from doing my job as your voice in the House of Representatives.
Together, #WeRepresent
