Friend,
Today, I'm thinking about all that's happened in the year since Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away -- and what we must do to ensure that the rights she worked to uphold remain a reality for millions of Americans.
Justice Ginsburg was a "shero" to me and countless other women who have practiced law. Her words, actions, and decisions opened doors for countless Americans. Her legacy is one of justice, equality, and respect for the rule of law.
But that progress is in danger. Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell shamelessly pushed a right-wing justice onto the Supreme Court immediately after Justice Ginsburg's passing. We've seen the results already: further rollbacks to voting rights, and an escalation of restrictions on a woman's right to choose.
The voices of the American people matter. And we made clear in the last election -- when we voted out Donald Trump and made Mitch McConnell minority leader -- that we opposed the right-wing effort to roll back progress through the courts.
Today, we cannot be deterred. We must get even more people registered to vote. We must demand an end to the filibuster so that Congress can pass bold legislation to protect vulnerable people from the fallout of flawed court decisions. We must use our voices at every turn to show our commitment to justice and equality, and we must never forget that Justice Ginsburg would want us to keep fighting.
May her memory continue to be a blessing. May she continue to inspire people everywhere to care about the law, our civic institutions, and what we can do to make our country better.
