We just ended the war in Afghanistan. We need to finally put a stop to endless wars and reinvest resources into our communities.

This coming week, the U.S. House will vote on a $40 billion INCREASE to the already-bloated Pentagon budget.

I’m one of a few Congressmembers to have continually voted AGAINST the annual National Defense Authorization Act. Will you join me in voicing your opposition?

We already spend more on our military than the next 11 nations combined, while children are going hungry.

As Amo (Uncle) Bernie Sanders said recently: “We don’t need more fighter jets or nuclear weapons, we need more decent housing and health care and education for our people.”

But, earlier this month—the day after we ended the war in Afghanistan—14 Democrats voted with Republicans in the House Armed Services Committee to drastically increase the Defense Department budget. They voted for a budget that’s $25 billion more than what President Joe Biden was seeking, which was already an increase to last year’s outrageously large increase.

Instead of ending the endless wars, Congressmembers on both sides of the aisle keep rubber stamping annual increases for weapons and defense contractors.

It’s especially ironic that some of my colleagues are saying there’s not enough money for a budget reconciliation proposal to address some of our greatest threats, including poverty and climate chaos.

We’ve got to invest in our communities, rather than waste billions of dollars on defense contractors creating mayhem abroad.

We JUST ended an expensive, destructive 20-year war in Afghanistan, for goodness sake!
