Friend,

Elijah's team and I want to express our deep gratitude to everyone who has shared their condolences and who have supported Elijah with thoughts, words, actions, and generous contributions. This community's support meant a great deal to Elijah as he tirelessly worked to protect our democracy.

I have been Elijah's political director for 13 years, and in that time, I -- along with so many others -- have had the honor to witness the passion, dignity, and integrity that imbued his lifelong fight for justice and equality.

Elijah often spoke of his mother's final words to him. She asked him to make sure that no one ever took away Americans' constitutional right to vote, and that request was a driving force throughout Elijah's career.

Now, we are left with Elijah's words that remind us that this is our watch and future generations are counting on us to speak up, take action, and fight for the soul of our democracy.
