Climate and Equitable Jobs Act Signed into Law!

350 Chicago is proud to be a member of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition. During the fight to pass this revolutionary Clean Energy Legislation and see it signed by Governor Pritzker, 350 Chicago members,

• Recruited participants for Lobby Day, participated in virtual Lobby Day in Springfield

• Drove calls and messages to representatives through our listserv, social media

• Hosted letter-writing parties

• Participated in Twitter storms, promoted CEJA via social media

• Helped activists write letters to the editor in support of CEJA

• Collected petition signatures, tweeted photo petitions

• Advocated stronger decarbonization policies

• Participated in climate strike events in support of CEJA

• Hosted an online webinar with 59th District Rep. Dan Didech, Jen Walling of IEC and journalist Kari Lydersen to discuss the provisions of the legislation

While it was quite a team effort, we would like to especially acknowledge 350 Chicago volunteer Alex McLeese. He represented our organization during the coalition meetings, providing input and reporting back to 350 Chicago with updates.

Divestment Campaigns:

Last week, 350 Chicago again met with the Chicago City Treasurer’s office to further discuss our Divestment Ordinance. We are quite encouraged by the Treasurers positive response, her office’s move toward our position and look forward to continuing the dialogue. 49th Ward Alderwoman Maria Hadden is our chief sponsor for the legislation in the city council and many other alderpersons have expressed support. We hope to have even better news in the near future. Stay tuned for further updates.

Furthermore, 350 Chicago just launched our Illinois State Divestment Campaign. We are just starting the research process and will have further news in the near future. We will be meeting with 350 Maine on Monday to understand their strategy for winning their statewide divestment campaign!

Moreover, by providing us with a Donation, you will help us pay for a subscription to the Foundation Directory Online to enhance our efforts to gain grants from funders and finally hire our first staffer!
