Before becoming a representative for the Bronx in the New York State Assembly, I was a registered nurse at the Montefiore Einstein Hospital. At the height of the pandemic, I came back to volunteer and help the hospitals. When I saw first hand the shocking lack of protections that workers faced, ALIGN was at the forefront to build the NY Essential Workers Coalition, which made sure that workers across the state could come together and fight for their rights.
Together, I joined ALIGN to fight for and win the NY HERO Act, the first-in-the-nation airborne infectious disease standard signed into law. This is a monumental achievement that will give workers a real voice in the workplace when it comes to health and safety.
ALIGN has been doing invaluable work organizing coalitions and campaigns that yield inspiring wins that grow worker power, build pathways to a green economy, and hold corporations accountable to our communities. Join me in celebrating the work of our movement at the 2021 Movement Builders Awards.
