John -- As the only state in the nation to gain two new congressional seats, the fallout from Texas redistricting can potentially have national impacts.

Texas -- along with Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida -- is considered by redistricting experts to be part of the “path to victory” for Republicans trying to take back the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. In these four states, Republicans could gerrymander their way to gaining as many as 13 seats -- and they only need five to regain their majority.

But as AOTL President Kelly Burton has highlighted, the demographic shifts in the most recent census data show that it’ll be nearly impossible for map manipulators to draw two new Republican congressional districts legally.

“There’s simply no way for them to add two more GOP seats in Texas
without racially gerrymandering based on this census data.” --President of All On The Line, Kelly Burton

But make no mistake: they will still try! So-called leaders -- at every level of the Republican party in Texas like Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Greg Abbott, and Redistricting Committee Chair Todd Hunter -- are already working to undermine a fair redistricting process

Will you chip in to help us reach more people and let them know that the time to fight back in states like Texas starts now?

The Texas Legislature will begin a special session on Monday -- and redistricting is on the agenda! Here’s the current redistricting landscape in Texas:
→ The Lone Star State was the only state to gain two congressional seats based on the latest census data.
→ We believe a fair map in Texas would add seats in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth regions -- because that’s where the state has seen the biggest population growth.
→ An unfair map would include gerrymanders that would continue to “crack” and “pack” suburbs around Austin, Dallas, and Houston -- protecting GOP control in communities that have shifted electorally over the past decade. We can’t allow that to happen.

When the maps aren’t fair, election results don’t accurately reflect the will of constituents. In 2020, less than 55% of voters supported Republicans -- yet their party won almost 64% of the state’s congressional seats.

This is undeniably the result of gerrymandering. And map drawers across the country are trying to replicate this mismatch with manipulated maps. Make a donation to help us stop them.

We’ll only be successful in this redistricting cycle by educating, training, and mobilizing people to bring transparency and accountability into the process. But we need your help to do it!

Together we can,
