Brady Calls on Ace Hardware to Adopt Responsible Gun Practices to Help Save Lives We all know the jingle, “Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks.” The corporation prides itself on being a good neighbor — and that’s why Americans love it.
But some Ace stores have sold firearms that have been used in deadly outcomes across the country — including the AR-15-style rifle used by the Kenosha shooter to kill two protesters in Kenosha, WI.
We privately called on Ace leadership to change their business practices to prevent any more loss of life. Yet they ignored our calls for public safety. That’s why we need help from you — and more community members that love Ace — urging the Ace Hardware Corporation to adopt policies to safely and responsibly sell firearms.
Brady Releases an Updated Report: “The Truth About Suicide and Guns” America’s deadliest shootings are those we rarely discuss: Over half of all gun deaths are suicides. Firearms are by far the most lethal method of suicide. And in 2020, with the backdrop of COVID-19 and record-breaking gun sales, unsecured firearms in gun-owning households risk an increase in suicide. In recognition of National Suicide Awareness Prevention month, we released our updated report, “The Truth About Suicide and Guns,” to provide tangible solutions for community organizers, loved ones, policymakers, and more to prevent gun suicide and save lives.
By focusing on safe gun storage, implementing evidence-based policies, and normalizing conversations about gun safety, we can prevent America’s suicide crisis. Brady California Chapters and Team ENOUGH Help Advance Vital Gun Safety Bills Across California This legislative session in California has been BUSY. Brady California, Brady Orange County, and Team ENOUGH have focused on five pieces of legislation on the local and state levels. This week, our hard-work paid off as activists helped advance all five bills to Gov. Newsom, Mayor Gloria (San Diego), and Mayor Breed (San Francisco) for their signatures, including:
Not to mention, gun safety champion Gov. Newsom won his recall election this week! We are proud to continue California’s legacy of having the strongest gun laws in America. 🎧 Episode 147: Honoring Coach Beigel with Action — and Summer Camp
Scott Beigel was a beloved teacher, cross country coach, and camp counselor who was one of the 17 victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. That tragic day led Scott’s friends and family to champion the Scott J. Beigel Unfinished Receiver Act and carry on what he loved the most — camp. We speak with Linda Beigel Schulman, Scott’s mother, about the Scott Beigel Memorial Fund and his legacy.
🎧 Episode 148: The NRA and the "Price of Freedom"
Activist and gun violence survivor Fred Guttenberg and director Judd Ehrlich join us to discuss Judd's newest film, "the Price of Freedom," which explores the role the NRA and the gun lobby has had in America’s gun violence epidemic. (The film will air on CNN tomorrow, Sunday, September 19, at 9 p.m. ET.) 🎧 FROM THE ARCHIVES: Why We Need to Talk About Suicide
This National Suicide Prevention Awareness month, we’re highlighting episodes by “Red, Blue, and Brady” to spread awareness about gun suicide and solutions to prevent it.
In 2010, Christen McGinnes survied a firearm suicide attempt. She then became a devoted volunteer and advocate for gun violence prevention. This week, San Diego City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert’s local ordinance to ban homemade, untraceable “ghost guns” moved forward to become law!
Gun safety champion von Wilbert has spent months spearheading this landmark victory, which was proudly supported by Brady California chapters and members of Team ENOUGH. Please join us in thanking Councilmember Marni von Wilpert for her leadership on this ordinance, which is a vital reminder of the power of local action to prevent gun violence. Thank you, John, for staying up-to-date on Brady's work across Congress, courts, and communities. Our work is not possible without grassroots donors like you. Will you consider donating to continue our life-saving work today? Thank you for being a Brady supporter and joining us in the fight to prevent gun violence.
