I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across the country. Here are three things to know today:

1. This week marked a grim milestone in the coronavirus pandemic: 1 in every 500 Americans has passed away from COVID-19. Here in Georgia, the rate is about 1 in 450. Our nation, state, and community have experienced such profound loss, leaving no family untouched, and I grieve with you all. Please get vaccinated, continue to mask up, and care for your physical and mental health in every way that you can.

2. Tomorrow, supporters of the deadly January 6th insurrection plan to gather again at the United States Capitol to demand legal immunity for violent insurrectionists. Safety personnel have made preparations to protect the Capitol, White House, and surrounding areas in case of violence, though I pray that this demonstration will be peaceful and uneventful.

3. Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 through October 15. We proudly recognize the many Latino and Hispanic American community members who have enriched our cultural tapestry and inspired others to achieve success.
