234 years ago today, the Founders of our nation came together in Philadelphia and wrote the final draft of the Constitution.
Today, I’m taking time to consider the very first sentence:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

I think some of our representatives are far too comfortable with the status quo, so much so they forget that they are in the pursuit of a more perfect union.
In my perfect union:
– We establish justice by dedicating ourselves to creating a stronger nation where every single American has the opportunity to thrive.
– We promote the general welfare by giving our country’s workers a fair shake, from higher wages to paid family leave.
– And we secure the blessings of liberty by fighting flagrant voter suppression and supporting measures to strengthen our democratic institutions that we hold so dear.
