CRESTVIEW BYPASS CONSTRUCTION BEGINS

This week, I had the pleasure of joining community leaders in Okaloosa County to break ground on the Southwest Crestview bypass construction project. To all the families who sacrifice their time to traffic on Highway 85, to all the businesses who rely on workers to traverse our roads, the message today is clear: Help is on the way.

We are going to have the most significant infrastructure and economic development project in all of Northwest Florida, and it is a testament to the strong cooperation and the strong local leadership.

RESPECT FOR OUR FIRST RESPONDERS

With last Saturday being September 11th, it was time to honor our fallen heroes, their families, and the strength and unity that the United States will always possess. Last weekend, I was  honored to spend time with the firefighters of DeFuniak Springs. I am grateful for their crucial and life-saving contributions to the citizens of the USA!

HOUSE REPUBLICANS ALERT LLOYD AUSTIN OF SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT GEN. MILLEY

Yesterday, I signed a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin—along with 23 House Republicans—expressing our concern for General Mark Milley's ability to exercise his duties and responsibilities to this country. As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Milley has blatantly disregarded his duty by secretly communicating with the Chinese Communist Party. Gen. Milley, it is your duty to uphold your oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. For this reason, we request that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin launch a formal AR-15-6 investigation, to investigate these secret phone calls with China.

BIDEN BORDER SURGE CONTINUES TO SWELL

For the second straight month, more than 200,000 encounters with illegals occurred at the Southern Border. The number of illegal border crossings hit 212,672 in July — the highest in 21 years. This is a bona fide crisis. 

Back in February, Joe Biden signed three Executive Orders to reverse the successes of the Trump administration, including to end the 2018 zero tolerance policy on prosecuting illegal border crossings. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and appointed 'Border Czar' Kamala Harris are failing at their jobs. Just look at the picture above for evidence of that failure. 

There is absolutely no stopping of this madness at the Southern Border because this administration has Zero legitimate border enforcement policies and Zero leadership on this issue.  

The White House requested that Congress pass legislation providing a pathway to citizenship for an estimated 11 million illegal aliens currently in the US. In March, 228 Democrats and 9 RINOs in the House did just that by passing the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021. This signals to the rest of the world that illegal aliens are welcome here and is one of many examples of why the inflow of immigration will not seize under the Biden administration. LEGISLATIVE NEWS

This week, I cosponsored three bills: 1) ban oil drilling off Florida's coast 2) to require the Navy to inform Congress when it has a ship available to be used as an artificial reef, and 3) bill to designate the POW/MIA Memorial and Museum at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, FL as the National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum to honor all former prisoners of war and those still missing in action. Here's some more information on each:

H.R.2836 - Florida Coastal Protection Act

Banning oil drilling off our beautiful coast has long had bipartisan support in Florida. With that said, the current Congressional moratorium on drilling off Florida’s Gulf Coast expires in 2022. This bill would protect Florida’s economy and the environment from the risk of oil drilling off of our beaches is to extend the moratorium permanently.

The Reef Act

Florida has more than 3,800 artificial reefs, including a handful of decommissioned Navy ships.  The fish love them, the divers love them, the veterans love them, and Florida’s business owners love the year-round business. As mentioned, the Reef Act would require the Navy to inform Congress when it has a ship that is available to states to use an artificial reef because it would be of great benefit to Florida!

National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum Act

This bill was introduced today, which is National Prisoners of War and Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Recognition Day. Additionally, the National League of POW/MIA Families strongly endorses this legislation, which designates Cecil Field as the National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum. While this may seem like a simple bill in scope, this commemorative location serves as a destination and symbol for all who wish to honor and remember America's POW/MIA, their families, and all American Veterans. I am extremely proud to cosponsor this bill.
