Gascon Recall Effort is Rebooting Dear Members, Yesterday, the Gascon recall campaign leadership announced that they would fall short of collecting a sufficient amount of signatures to qualify a vote to recall the district attorney. Although this news is unfortunate, the message below from the campaign leadership indicates that a new committee has been formed, and that a new, more organized effort will be made to recall Gascon. As of now, please do not mail in any more of the petitions to the League. They will not be counted in the new effort. See the message below from the newly formed campaign committee and as developments unfold we will keep you appraised of the information. Very truly yours, BOARD OF DIRECTORS Los Angeles Police Protective League Email From Recall DA George Gascon Campaign Hello Los Angeles County LEA Presidents - Yesterday it was announced that the current Recall George Gascon campaign is taking a break and will start up again shortly. This was because despite the tremendous efforts of hundreds of volunteers getting signatures, we would not be able to meet the required signatures by the deadline. A new recall effort has already begun with key stakeholders and donors. This campaign understands how critical it is to be organized, ready and transparent. This campaign is committed to recalling Gascon - for victims, for law enforcement, for public safety, and for the integrity of the District Attorney's Office. There is new leadership and there are committed financial donors which will pay for signature gatherers to augment the tremendous efforts of volunteer signature gatherers. [link removed] Attached is the official press release from the new campaign. We know many of you have put in hours of your time and may have financially contributed to the old campaign. Your efforts are not wasted because Gascon has been wounded in our efforts and public opinion has started to wane. The money collected is being transferred to the new campaign. The signatures that have been gathered to date will not count. The petitions for the new effort will be different. Please discard any petitions that were delivered to you so that there is no confusion with new petitions once they are released. The campaign is confident that we will prevail in this next effort. Law enforcement's involvement in this important issue can not be overstated and we look forward to your support and assistance once the new recall effort is launched. -- Very truly yours, Kathy Cady, J.D.
