The new 6-week abortion ban that cuts millions of Texans off from abortion access is shocking, dangerous, unconstitutional, and cruel.

But it did not come out of nowhere. It's part of a years-long nationwide effort to dismantle access to abortion — and does most harm to people for whom systemic racism and discrimination already create barriers to health care access. Restrictions on abortion access fall hardest on Black and Latino communities and people with low incomes. The Texas ban doubles down on this damning history, and poses even harsher threats to people trying to get an abortion.
