Today, we celebrate the hard work of Regina Romero and Danny Ortega, Jr.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, friend!
We are so grateful for the contributions that Latinx communities have made in the development of our nation.
Today, we pause to honor the hard work and dedication of leaders like Regina Romero and Danny Ortega, Jr., two Arizonans working hard to ensure a brighter future for our state that is truly reflective of its diversity and culturally rich spirit.
Regina Romero, elected in 2019, is the first Latina to serve as mayor of Tucson, and only the second Hispanic to serve since 1854. During her tenure as mayor, she worked to implement sustainable practices and reduce the impacts of climate change. Throughout the pandemic, she has responded quickly, implementing mask mandates to protect citizens from the continued spread of COVID-19.
Danny Ortega, Jr. is a life-long human rights activist and education reform advocate, whose hard work has been spent organizing on behalf of farmers facing unsafe working conditions. As the chairman of the Arizona Industrial Commission, Ortega was instrumental in the adoption of regulations that ensure growers provide workers with safe and clean drinking water and eliminate the use of the short-handled hoe.
At the Arizona Democratic Party, we strive to create a party that is both community-driven and compassionate. The leadership of both Regina and Danny serve as inspiration for our continued activism, and we so gratefully acknowledge their sacrifice.
Today, we restore our commitment to solidarity with the Latinx community and continue the fight for a more equitable future that is representative of us all.
Adelante,
