When President Biden toured the devastation of Hurricane Ida in New York and New Jersey, he said “this is code red” and called the climate crisis “an existential threat.” Yet his administration continues to issue permits for fracking on federal lands and is supporting fossil fuel projects from Alaska to the Gulf Coast.

This has to stop. President Biden could use his executive authority to stop these disastrous projects and protect the climate we all depend on. But he won’t act unless we demand it.

President Biden has a tremendous amount of power — more than almost anyone else in the world — to get to the root of the climate crisis and actually keep fossil fuels in the ground. He could stop the approval of new fossil fuel projects, he could intervene to block Line 3, and he could nominate environmental justice champions to serve at every level of his administration.

It’s up to us to force Biden and his administration to meet this moment, follow the science, and stand up for the communities most impacted by pollution and climate disasters.

That’s why we’re converging in Washington, D.C., with Indigenous and frontline leaders, grassroots allies, people of faith, scientists, young people, and others. This is not a single march or rally, but instead a wave of action from October 11th to 15th. We’ll be engaging in peaceful civil disobedience and risking arrest outside the White House to put sustained pressure on President Biden and a bigger spotlight on our demands.

I know it’s a big request, and not everyone will be able to make this sacrifice. But if you can afford to do this, there couldn’t be a more important time to take action. And if you’ve never done something like this before, or have any questions, you’re not alone; we’re working with an amazing group of organizers and will support you all along the way.

We need to send a wake-up call to President Biden and the political establishment in D.C. Will you join a massive wave of civil disobedience October 11-15 to demand an end to fossil fuels?

There are lots of amazing leaders from the climate movement who will be coming from all over the country to take action in D.C. But not everyone can make the trip. So for those of use who live here, it’s extra important that we take this opportunity to step up, take action, and demand that President Biden reject fossil fuels.
