Our Michigan-based Director of Currently and Formerly Incarcerated Citizens (I know, it's a long title), Amani Sawari, has been hard at work. Her passion for serving the people of Michigan and the justice involved community has been inspiring. Over the last several months she has been relentlessly building new partnerships and we are excited to announce two big ones!
Starting with this school year, Spread The Vote will be working with the Detroit Public Schools Community District to help students and surrounding community members get the IDs they need to take the next steps to starting or rebuilding their lives. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with this incredible school district, I have been so heartened by the passion and care of the DPSCD staff members that we have met so far. Having lived in Michigan for a few years myself, I am absolutely honored that we get to serve this community and incredibly proud of Amani's hard work!
Not satisfied with one big new partnership this year, Amani has also been working hard to grow our Vote By Mail in Jail program, getting us into several jails across Michigan and building a partnership with an organization that I have personally admired for a long time- Chicago Votes. We'll be working with this groundbreaking organization to help increase the number of incarcerated citizens who can vote across Illinois.
If you are interested in getting involved in either Michigan or Illinois, email [email protected]! And great job Amani, we are so lucky to have you.
Thanks as always for your incredible support, especially during the world's longest pandemic.
