Two Exciting New Partnerships

Our Michigan-based Director of Currently and Formerly Incarcerated Citizens (I know, it's a long title), Amani Sawari, has been hard at work. Her passion for serving the people of Michigan and the justice involved community has been inspiring. Over the last several months she has been relentlessly building new partnerships and we are excited to announce two big ones!

Starting with this school year, Spread The Vote will be working with the Detroit Public Schools Community District to help students and surrounding community members get the IDs they need to take the next steps to starting or rebuilding their lives. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with this incredible school district, I have been so heartened by the passion and care of the DPSCD staff members that we have met so far. Having lived in Michigan for a few years myself, I am absolutely honored that we get to serve this community and incredibly proud of Amani's hard work!

Not satisfied with one big new partnership this year, Amani has also been working hard to grow our Vote By Mail in Jail program, getting us into several jails across Michigan and building a partnership with an organization that I have personally admired for a long time- Chicago Votes. We'll be working with this groundbreaking organization to help increase the number of incarcerated citizens who can vote across Illinois.

If you are interested in getting involved in either Michigan or Illinois, email [email protected]! And great job Amani, we are so lucky to have you.

Thanks as always for your incredible support, especially during the world's longest pandemic.

Help STV Get More IDs With Our New Partners!
Michael is a veteran who was referred to us by his case manager. He relocated to Florida for a fresh start and was going to stay with an old friend from the military. Sadly, this friend was incarcerated right before Michael arrived and Michael ended up homeless (he’s currently in transitional housing).

We worked with the DMV and Michael to determine what he needed and printed out copies of his documents for him before scheduling his DMV appointment. Without a valid ID, Michael could not secure employment, get his Patriot Passport transit card, or apply for food stamps.

Two days after we did Michael’s intake, he got his CDL, so he’ll have more job opportunities in addition to everything else. He also registered to vote. We wish Michael all the best! #IDsForLife

Michael's ID cost $75. As you can see, every dollar makes a difference in our clients' lives.
Help us pay the fines and fees of more incarcerated citizens!
