Dear Friend,

Over the past few weeks, USCRI team members have been on the frontlines, helping resettle newly arrived Afghan refugees. We spoke with Kerri True-Funk, Field Office Director of USCR’s Des Moines office, who along with other USCRI staff recently spent time at Ft. Lee and Ft. McCoy, working directly with Afghan refugees through their intake process.

The new arrivals represent a wide cross-section of people of all ages and backgrounds. Many have been significantly impacted by their recent experiences in Afghanistan. Most share a concern about the families left behind, and what the future holds.

Despite the uncertainly, there is hope ([link removed]) . Hope that resonates through the laughter and smiles of the children, who manage to find joy in each moment of their new lives. Hope that tomorrow holds the promise of a brighter future – free from danger, violence and worry.

“What I remember most from my time at Ft. Lee and Ft. McCoy is the children’s resilience. Families had flown halfway around the world fleeing harrowing conditions to find safer lives and futures for their children.” said Kerri. “Seeing children of all ages that are ready to laugh, play, smile at the world in front of them gives me hope for these families.”

And USCRI is there for them – every step of the way, giving wings to their hopes and dreams. Through our resettlement services, we provide the necessary resources and support to help these families settle into their new communities and start to build a new life.

But we can’t do that without you. ([link removed])

As a supporter, you play a key role in helping these refugees make a new start. We invite you to become a monthly donor ([link removed]) and help provide the building blocks these families need to create a new future. Each gift we receive will help a family navigate through the complex resettlement process, find shelter, medical services, and support in adapting to a new culture.

Above all, your gift ([link removed]) in any amount gives hope. We thank you for your generosity.
