Lots of changes as rates rise again in Oldham
Our Coronavirus rate has risen again this week and we have now reached cases in the borough.
There have been some important updates to Covid guidance this week:

12-15 year olds
Vaccinations for all children aged 12-15 will soon be rolled out across our schools in Oldham, starting next week. The benefits of getting vaccinated are:
• It reduces time out of school
• It reduces chance of becoming infected
• It reduces chance of passing Covid on to loved ones
• Getting vaccinated is the best way to slow the spread of the virus.

Booster programme
Invitations are being sent to eligible residents for the Covid-19 vaccine booster campaign (third dose). All those people who received vaccination in the first phase of the vaccination programme (priority groups 1 to 9) will be offered a third dose Covid-19 booster vaccine within six months of their second dose.

This group of people includes:
* Those living in residential care homes
* All adults aged 50 years or over
* Frontline health and social care workers
* All those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe Covid, and adult carers
* Adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

Regardless of what type of vaccine was administered for doses 1 and 2, the third dose will be Pfizer or Moderna.

Care homes
Just a reminder that from 11 November this year, it will become law that anyone entering a registered care home must have had a complete course (two doses) of the vaccine.

This includes visiting health and social care staff from other organisations, as well as those delivering non-care services such as hairdressing, maintenance, or leisure activities.

We continue to encourage anyone over the age of 16 to take up their vaccine now, by visiting our walk-in clinics across the borough.
Those aged 18 and over who would rather book an appointment for a Coronavirus vaccination can do so online through the online booking system ([link removed])

** Urgent call for black adopters
------------------------------------------------------------

A national campaign has been relaunched this month by Adoption Now to encourage more black adults to consider adoption, with figures showing black children are waiting longer to be adopted.

Black and mixed heritage children wait on average 21 and 28 months before finding loving homes – around 10 months longer than white children.

Adoption Now wants more people to realise there are fewer barriers to adopting than you may think and remove misconceptions. You can adopt if:
* You are single or in a relationship but unmarried
* You are over 45 (there is no upper age limit)
* You work full-time/are unemployed

While it's not mandatory for children to be matched with adoptive parents who share the same ethnicity, many adoptive parents tend to seek children who share a similar history and heritage, so a low number of black adopters is one reason more black children remain in the social care system.

#DontTrashOldham: Next phase to launch

Our borough-wide clean-up initiative, Don’t Trash Oldham, is now well underway and we’re getting a fantastic response from residents supporting the scheme.

Our teams are expected to start clearing up Chadderton Central and Chadderton North wards from 1 October.

Council staff will be carrying out a deep clean of the areas removing all the litter, rubbish and fly-tipping they find.

Find out more about our clean up campaign, including the provisional schedule for each ward, on our designated Don’t Trash Oldham web pages ([link removed])
