Dear Radical Imagination community,
We could not be more grateful for your continued listenership over the past three seasons. With your support, we’ve been able to envision a better world, sustained by the creativity, hope, and resilience in the face of injustice that our guests have demonstrated. Thank you for coming on this journey with us.
Join Angela on Clubhouse today, September 17, at 1 pm PT / 4 pm ET, for a timely discussion on an issue that affects most – if not all – of us personally: debt. The legitimacy of debt and the possibility of its cancellation is the focus of the final episode of this season of Radical Imagination, and we want to hear your voices on a growing movement that, with effective organizing, would remove the economic shackles dragging down an entire generation and unleash vast talent and economic potential.
Debt – over $13.5 trillion collectively owed at the end of 2018 – continues to drown millions of young people, families, and retirees, with the impact of this crushing burden disproportionately borne by Black and Brown communities. Families with Latinx heads were more likely to have debt payments exceeding 40 percent of their income, and 27 percent of Black Americans were late on their debts
compared with 15 percent of White Americans. In this episode of Radical Imagination, host Angela Glover Blackwell speaks with Astra Taylor, a filmmaker, activist and the director of the Debt Collective, a membership union calling for the cancellation of all types of debt. This work calls upon us to rethink our entire conception of debt, challenging us to redefine who is owed what as we reckon with the sins of our history, repair the harms, and build a just, equitable nation.
Thank you again for your continued support, and we look forward to building season four with you.
In solidarity,
Team Radical Imagination
