Constitution Day from the Eyes of a Student
Oglethorpe Student Writes in the Washington Examiner, 'Schools Snub Constitution Day'
Constitution Day is today, and Joseph Knippenberg ([link removed]) , JMC faculty partner at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, shared a Washington Examiner piece, "Schools Snub Constitution Day. ([link removed]) " One of his students wrote the article after attending one of our partner program Constitution Day events.

Professor Knippenberg's student Alex Becker writes about the Constitution Day federal mandate that was implemented in 2004, and says he was unaware Constitution Day even existed.

The Oglethorpe undergraduate writes, "... it wasn't until I began college that I experienced my first school-sponsored Constitution Day lecture for the federal observance day that recognizes the adoption of the U.S. Constitution."

Mr. Becker also emphasized why he believes schools should take Constitution Day seriously. He said, "Our education system has an obligation to turn the next generation into decent citizens. Of course, understanding our Constitution and how it affects us daily is a part of making that happen."

This is one of the reasons why JMC makes Constitution Day a priority every year in addition to our other efforts with professors and teachers. And words like these underscore why we believe that "the battle for the soul of our nation will be won or lost in our classrooms™".

JMC's network of more than 1,000 professors on more than 300 campuses believe in educating our young people about America's history and the importance of our founding documents. We work with them to strengthen education from K-12 through college.
