When we think about what it would mean to re-evaluate America’s priorities, I think Ro’s tweet say it all:
Ro is one of the lone voices speaking out against gratuitous defense spending in Congress — and one of the reasons he’s able to show courage on this issue is because our campaign doesn’t take a penny from PACs or lobbyists. If you’re in a place to show your support today, we’re asking grassroots donors to pitch in $5 or more right now to show Ro that we have his back.
Democrats need to stand up to a bloated defense budget, because the bottom line is that we can use that money right here at home. Yet just days after the U.S. ended our 20-year war in Afghanistan, a key House committee voted to dump an extra $24 billion into defense spending — beyond what President Biden AND military leaders requested.
We can’t overflow the Pentagon’s budget and pad the pockets of military contractor CEOs when families across the country are struggling to find work, pay bills, and put food on the table.
Ro knows that his courage on this issue has the support of his district and many Americans across our nation, and he’ll never cave to pressure to sign off on unnecessary defense budget increases. But there’s never been a better moment to show the political establishment that we’re with Ro as he defends our progressive values.
