Pressing Issues

We asked you to tell us about the most important issues that our leaders should be focused on, and these are the most common answers we heard.

climate change
education
healthcare
voting
democracy
rights
economy
security
government
infrastructure

*****

Insurrection Justice
Amid all the issues facing our nation right now, most respondents support investigating the January 6th insurrection. 78% of answers about the investigation were affirmative, while less than 20% believe it's best to just move on. Among the team at New Politics, we'd have to agree: the attack on our Capitol was an assault on our process of self government, and we have to address this radicalism or risk allowing it to escalate.

Support for Cooperation

Despite the hyperpartisanship that has come to define American politics in recent years, our community overwhelmingly favors bipartisan cooperation among leaders instead of catering to their partisan base.

Would you like to see more politicians cross the aisle to work on solutions that unite us, or should they cater to the interests of their own base?
89.9% - Yes, focus on collaboration
2.7% - No, cater to partisan interests
7.5% - Unsure

Inspiring Leaders
We asked if there are any current leaders who inspire you and, unsurprisingly, found a recurring theme in your answers: service veterans. We love seeing our candidates earn recognition for their principled leadership as elected officials. Here are some of the leaders you named who inspire you.

"Many New Politics alums! David Crowley, Elissa Slotkin, Jared Golden, Pat Ryan. People who have integrity, will speak honestly about how they are navigating a difficult system, and work incredibly hard." -Frances G.

"Abigail Spanberger (my 7th district rep in Virginia). She has a broad national perspective and comes from a place of service but manages to focus on serving her constituents regardless of party affiliation. She works with reps from both sides of the aisle to address real world needs and conditions. Military, volunteer, or other federal or community service are not everything, but they do prepare individuals to think of others and to work as a team, not just preening or posturing." -David W.

"Seth Moulton, as he is servant leader and military veteran. He has a moral compass and speaks up when needed. He has a strong character especially in a divided partisan Congress. He isn't partisan. He holds others accountable, especially during the January 6th insurrection. He is committed to serving his district and veterans. He acts on solving the most pressing issues of our time, and cooperates with others in the policy process." -Brett S.

"Adam Kinzinger, Jason Crow, and Ruben Gallego because they can work across the aisle and are driven by their service." -Thomas H.
