A recent survey estimated that one in six American renters are behind on rent. Economic fallout from the pandemic has made it even more difficult to find jobs that pay a livable wage, and it could soon lead to a homelessness – and economic – crisis.
Congress approved federal rental assistance to help low-income and unemployed Americans, but as of August 25, only 11% of the funds have been distributed so far. Now, families are struggling to get by and making hard decisions about which bills to pay because the money isn't reaching them – so we’re stepping up to help.
Along with a powerful coalition of partners, we’re calling on governors across the U.S. to streamline the rental assistance application immediately – and we’re counting on you to join us. Please, tell your governor: Distribute rental federal assistance now!
To make matters worse, the Supreme Court overturned the eviction moratorium and just 11 days later, federal unemployment aid ran out. Within a matter of two weeks, Americans lost pandemic assistance they still desperately need.
Now, the situation is dire. Americans will be forced out of their homes while the delta variant continues to spread. And millions of Americans suddenly losing their housing will have a profoundly devastating impact on our economy.
Congress has already approved funding for federal rental assistance – but it’s not reaching Americans because states have hired burdensome third-party vendors and required unnecessary documentation.
That’s why it’s so important that we convince every governor to immediately disperse federal rental assistance by streamlining the application process nationally. We’re counting on you to help us prevent a mass homelessness crisis, so please, sign on now:

Will you tell your governor to immediately distribute federal rental assistance?

Thank you for helping us strengthen the social safety net for struggling families. We really appreciate your support.
