It wasn’t a hard question.
At a candidate forum in Montrose on Sunday, the Democrats running for Senate were asked to raise our hands if we believed that Donald Trump had committed an impeachable offense.
All but one of us raised our hands at once. There is no doubt in my mind that Trump has committed multiple impeachable offenses; he’s admitted as much on national TV.
Yet John Hickenlooper, as the Colorado Sun reported today, hesitated and “glanced around at his challengers before tepidly raising his hand.” He then shrugged, told the other candidates “we don’t know,” put his hand down, and shook his head.
We do know—it’s illegal to seek foreign interference in our elections. That’s just one of the impeachable offenses Trump not only committed but bragged about.
What we don’t know is whether we’ll replace Cory Gardner with a leader who will stand up and say so. Gardner himself couldn’t answer a “yes or no” question earlier this month—whether it’s appropriate for the President of the United States to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival.
The answer to that question, of course, is no. And the fact that both Cory Gardner and John Hickenlooper are hesitating to call out Trump’s crimes and hold him accountable is deeply troubling.
We deserve a senator willing to speak truth to power—a leader who will bring the courage of our convictions to Washington.
That’s why I’m running, and why I’m asking for your help right now.
Our campaign is under attack from both parties—and that’s no surprise. The political establishment isn’t keen on candidates they can’t control.
But this is no time for timidity. We need bold leadership now more than ever.
You can make that possible by chipping in $5 or more to our grassroots campaign today.
