Dear John,
If you stay in a Hilton hotel this week, a housekeeper like me might greet you outside. That’s because it’s International Housekeeping Week, and we’re asking for your help to get our jobs back.
Hilton is trying to end automatic daily housekeeping in order to avoid bringing many of us housekeepers back to work. So workers all across the country will be welcoming guests outside hotels and asking them to opt in for daily housekeeping.
Will you sign our petition to help bring back automatic daily housekeeping?
After getting furloughed due to COVID, I’ve been waiting so long to get called back to work. It’s so frustrating, because I’ve worked at Hilton for three years, and I never imagined that I still wouldn’t be back full-time when unemployment ended. I need my job because I’ve got bills, I’ve got the rent, and I’ve got to provide for my kids.
But my hotel reopened without automatic daily housekeeping, so I still don’t have a full-time job. In fact, our Union estimates that the hotel industry’s plan to end daily housekeeping would permanently slash the U.S. housekeeping workforce by up to 39 percent and cost housekeepers up to $4.8 billion in lost wages every year. It also makes out workloads even more painful, because rooms get so dirty when they go days without cleaning.
The good news? It doesn’t have to be like this. Daily housekeeping is what guests want, and together we can protect the hotel experience and jobs.
Sign the petition to support us during International Housekeeping Week.
Sincerely,
Desire Franqui
