Three MORE reasons to leave chicken off your plate

Chickens farmed for meat are subjected to torment their entire short lives. It's cruel - these sentient beings deserve happy, healthy lives of freedom. There are a million reasons why you should keep chicken off your plate. Here are just three of them:

1. Most slaughterhouses operate at a staggering rate of killing up to 140 birds per minute, which is almost three birds per second.

2. Chickens are slaughtered at just six weeks of age. To maximize profits, chickens are genetically manipulated to grow twice as fast as chickens did 50 years ago. It used to take 84 days to raise a five-pound chicken. Today, because of selective breeding and growth-promoting drugs, birds reach slaughter weight in just 45 days.

3. Because of this fast growth, they often endure severe leg problems, leaving them unable to access food and water. They also suffer ammonia burns from living in the waste of the 20,000 birds they are crammed into a building with.

Learn more about the horrors these innocent birds go through as victims of animal agriculture: The Life of a ChickenAnd stay tuned for our next investigation, coming soon.

"Meat Atlas:" The shocking truth about animal agriculture and climate change

A new study found that just 20 meat and dairy farms produce more greenhouse gas than Germany, Britain or France — and a mere five meat and milk giants produce more combined emissions every year than major oil companies like Exxon, Shell or BP. Read more about the recent report here.

Apple Cider Crumble Cake Recipe

Fall into this Apple Cider Crumble Cake this weekend. This cake is the epitome of comfort when served fresh out of the oven thanks to apples, cinnamon, and a bit of pumpkin pie spice. Its moist and delicate texture means it’s best served with a spoon, topped with a scoop of vegan ice cream. Get the recipe here.

KFC takes on vegan chicken tenders

According to Kevin Hochman, the U.S. president of both KFC and Pizza Hut at Yum! Brands, the plant-based meat trend is likely to continue expanding into the mainstream. And the development of increasingly authentic flavors and textures remains a priority for his team.

“Our plan is to try to replicate that Kentucky Fried Chicken as close as we can, obviously without using the animal.” said Hochman. Read more here.
