Trump has made it clear that he has every intention of once again seeking the aid of foreign governments to help him in the 2020 elections. It's evident not just through the whistleblower report, but he has even pressured Ukraine and China to investigate Biden on television when talking with reporters. As Trump becomes increasingly brazen with his disregard for the law, it is clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to get re-elected.
Thankfully, there is a bill moving in the House that would protect our elections from foreign interference and disinformation campaigns. Your members of Congress need to hear from you as they are expected to begin hearings on the bill this coming week!
Tell the House to pass the SHIELD Act – add your name immediately!>>
We need to show the House that there is strong support for this bill, particularly as we head towards the 2020 elections with so much at stake. The SHIELD Act (HR 4617) would strengthen election security measures and ensure that foreign governments are unable to interfere in our democracy. Specifically, the bill:
- Creates a duty to report illicit offers of campaign assistance from foreign governments and their agents.
- Helps prevent foreign interference in future elections by improving transparency of online political advertisements.
- Closes loopholes that allow foreign nationals and foreign governments to spend in U.S. elections.
- Restricts exchange of campaign information between candidates and foreign governments and their agents.
- Prohibits deceptive practices about voting procedures.
