Hey John,
I’m Heidi Heitkamp, and I proudly served North Dakota for six years in the U.S. Senate, so I get what it takes to do the job and how crucial it is that we send only the strongest leaders who are up to the task to Washington — like Val Arkoosh, who is running for this critical Senate seat.
As a doctor, Val fought for patients in the operating room and moms on the labor and delivery floor. She took that deep understanding of what her patients needed to the fight for affordable health care, and went on to be the first woman to serve as Chair of Pennsylvania’s third-largest county, where she represents more than 850,000 constituents. In that role, she’s brought results to the people she serves — from raising the minimum wage and providing paid parental leave for county workers, to helping preserve 10,000 acres of farm land and rebuilding critical infrastructure.
Now, she’s running for U.S. Senate to deliver lasting results for our country, from expanding access to quality, affordable health care and lowering the cost of prescription drugs, to strengthening our care giving economy.
A few years ago, a lot of folks might have said Democrats had a snowball’s chance of winning in Pennsylvania. But a lot has changed since then. CNN has repeatedly ranked this red seat the most likely to flip blue next November, and we know we can do it with a strong candidate.
Val is the candidate with the experience and determination to bring this win home for Democrats. But Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have raised more than $58 million to defeat Democrats like Val running in battleground states, and it’s important that she keeps pace in her fundraising to compete with their war chest. That’s why she asked me to reach out to you today ahead of her end-of-quarter deadline:
Can you chip in with a grassroots donation to help send Val to Washington to get things done for workers and families? Any amount will make a real difference.

This is not only a must-win seat that would send another Democratic U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania to Washington — electing Val would be historic. She’d be the first woman from Pennsylvania ever elected to the U.S. Senate and the first woman doctor from either party elected to the Senate. And take it from me, we need more women in the U.S. Senate fighting for working families and opportunities for all our kids.
Based on my time in Washington, I know Val has what it takes to cut through the noise and make real progress, the same way she has gotten stuff done for Pennsylvanians throughout her career. Now, she’s ready to make big changes for the whole country in the U.S. Senate.
Please, pitch in whatever you can before Val’s end-of-quarter deadline to make sure she can deliver lasting results for workers and families in the U.S. Senate.
