Not only is Senator Joe Manchin opposing $3.5 trillion of investments in working people, families, and our communities — he’s also saying some shameful things about the Child Tax Credit.
Joe Manchin wants to require people to work in order to receive the $250-$300 per child monthly relief checks for their kids. Plain and simple, these are GOP talking points.
We’ve seen historic levels of unemployment during the pandemic — along with increased levels of poverty and hunger in America. The Child Tax Credit has provided some much needed economic relief to families, and it has done so while cutting poverty. We fought to pass the Child Tax Credit for families with children so we can tackle the rampant economic inequality that leaves the 99 percent behind while CEOs and billionaires get richer.
The Child Tax Credit was passed as a temporary benefit, which Pramila is now fighting to make permanent. This fight is so much more difficult with these statements by Manchin AND the corporate lobbying that is trying to block us.
Economic relief is just that, relief for the people. Folks having trouble finding a job or who are unable to work may need the most help from the Child Tax Credit and other economic relief measures. We need to fight for them.
