We have some very exciting news to share, John.
Yesterday, Reps. Mondaire Jones, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley introduced the Fossil Free Finance Act which would require the Federal Reserve to hold big banks accountable for financing fossil fuels.
In the last 5 years, the world’s 60 biggest banks have financed fossil fuels to the tune of $3.8 trillion. Under this legislation, big banks would be required to align their financing with science-based emission targets and our obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement.
There are 15 co-sponsors on the bill so far, but we need many more in order to pass this bill in the House. Will you send a message to Rep. Brendan Boyle right now urging them to co-sponsor the Fossil Free Finance Act?

This bill is only possible because of the enormous momentum we’ve built around the Federal Reserve and their responsibility to manage climate risks.
Last week, our movement delivered over 40,000 petition signatures encouraging President Biden to nominate a new Federal Reserve Chair who will prioritize the climate.
In August, we took action outside the Federal Reserve branch in Denver and did a massive banner drop in Wyoming ahead of the planned Economic Policy Symposium.
While we continue to pressure President Biden to nominate a new Federal Reserve Chair, this bill is a huge opportunity to change the course of the Federal Reserve – and turn the tides for our climate – with or without the White House.
Every representative who claims to be a champion for climate action must sign on to this bill. Can you send a message to Rep. Brendan Boyle urging him to sign on to the Fossil Free Finance Act?
If this bill passes, big banks would not be allowed to finance
With enough pressure, we’re confident that we can double our co-sponsors by this time next week. Thank you for being part of this.
In solidarity,
