John, at the Fort Bliss detention center in El Paso, Texas report after report has revealed that children are being continually mistreated — burned in blistering hot water, refused mental health care, threatened with deportation, and neglected over and over after officials promised supporters that conditions would get better.

Children should never be forced into perilous conditions while they wait for days on end to be reunited with their families, and we cannot wait any longer for this to end.

One of the most powerful ways we can intensify the pressure is by calling the Secretary of the Department of Human Health Services, Xavier Becerra, and telling him to immediately shut down Fort Bliss. It only takes a minute, but the impact is enormous. PLUS we’ll give you some tips on what you could say:

CALL BECERRA AT 1-844-338-5108

I wish we didn’t have to continue drumming this message, but it’s clear that if we don’t make ourselves as loud as possible, nothing is going to change. In fact, whistleblowers who work within the facility have put their careers on the line because they want us to know that conditions have not improved since the first report was revealed in June.

These problems are symptomatic of the same disease that has eliminated almost every avenue to enter the country legally for people seeking safety.

We can change what is happening, but it must start with each of us taking action: Will you join us in calling Secretary Becerra to immediately shut down the Fort Bliss detention facility?

CALL BECERRA AT 1-844-338-5108

The countless whistleblower reports have made our demand clear as water: we need alternatives that adequately address the needs of children and their families. It’s time to treat people who are looking for a new home free from the violence and trauma of their pasts with care, compassion, and dignity.

Thanks for all you do,
Paola Luisi, Director
