EPA to Restart Bristol Bay Clean Water Act Protection Process
Last week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced its intent to reinstate proposed protections for the watersheds of Alaska’s Bristol Bay, a turn of events that could prevent Pebble Mine from devastating North America’s best salmon stronghold. "This move puts us a step closer to significant protections for Bristol Bay,” says Guido Rahr, Wild Salmon Center CEO. With our coalition, we're now working to provide EPA with the clear science that supports Clean Water Act protections, and mobilize public support for putting Bristol Bay permanently off limits to hard rock mining.

Meet Wild Salmon Center Ambassador Jeff Hickman
Choosing the guiding life was never just about chasing fish for Jeff Hickman, a Wild Salmon Center Ambassador and owner of Fish the Swing, which runs a jet boat camp on the Deschutes, winter steelhead lodges on the Clackamas and Oregon Coast, and Kimsquit Bay Lodge on B.C.’s Dean River. “It was always about conservation for me,” he says. We talk with Hickman about his faith in steelhead, and why he's taking a stand for this wild fish by setting down the fly rod, for now.
