Friend, You may have heard of my husband Brian Mast. He currently serves as a Republican Congressman from Florida where he has been fighting to keep our communities safe and ensure the best possible future for our children. What you might not know is that Brian was deployed to Afghanistan when our first child was just 4 months old. There, he was blown up by a bomb planted by terrorists. I feared the worst: that our beautiful little boy was going to go through life never knowing his father. By the grace of God, though, Brian survived. He lost two legs and a finger, learned to walk again on prosthetics and has been the most amazing father I can imagine for our (now four) little munchkins. I was by Brian’s side during the long and exhausting days of his recovery. I saw in him a drive and passion to not let his best service to our nation be behind him. When Joe Biden abandoned Americans and our allies in Afghanistan, it brought all of those memories rushing back. Like it has for so many veterans, this past month has made Brian question whether all the bloodshed and sacrifice was worth it. On top of that, this week marks the 11-year anniversary of the day Brian was blown up. In our family, it is usually a moment for celebration: we call it his “Alive Day.” This year, though, that day feels a little bit different for Brian. You see, he has been working overtime to help get Americans and the Afghans that he served with out of the country. Brian is determined to help them, even if Joe Biden won’t. But as a result, I’m told that there has been less time for fundraising this quarter, and he is behind where he needs to be to set up a winning campaign. His next election will likely cost millions of dollars, but Brian is determined to spend his time helping those he served with instead of hosting fundraisers. That’s why I told Brian I would help him raise $10,000 toward his end of quarter fundraising goal.
