HARTFORD – In under two weeks, Governor Ned Lamont and Hartford Democrats will call the Connecticut General Assembly into special session to further extend the Covid-19 Public Health Emergency and the increased powers that the Governor has been enjoying for the better part of two years. Members of the legislature are standing up and announcing their intentions to vote down Governor Lamont's latest emergency extension, adding to public outcry to finally move beyond the pandemic and start recovery in earnest.

Ahead of the special session, the Connecticut Republican Party has released a petition (StopKingNed.com ([link removed]) ) for all residents to add their voice to a growing chorus demanding an immediate return to a full representative government.

Chairman Ben Proto made the following statements on the subject, "This goes beyond partisan politics. The comforts of unilateral power and a democratic supermajority have gone to Governor Lamont's head. Hinting that he intends to kick out the new expiration for another six months shows that the continued state of emergency has no standing in science.

"Connecticut boasts one of the highest vaccination rates in the country and our public's adherence to the long-standing guidelines - even without a provided reason as to why they are needed or when they will end - are commendable.

"I find it interesting that neighboring states with Democratic governors have relinquished their extra-constitutional authority - even with vaccination rates that lag behind Connecticut. Governor Lamont, can you explain what would convince you that we should be operating any differently than your colleagues?

"Governor, beyond sidelining the legislature, you are dismissing the voice of the people who elected you to serve as their governor. People deserve metrics and information. Two years into this pandemic, there is enough evidence to show that our states' collective actions have gotten infection rates under control. It's time to end the 'overprotection' and allow the state to fully recover.

"Connecticut must remove it's pandemic-colored glasses and focus on the other things currently devastating our state: crime, businesses on the brink of closure, people out of work/not paying their bills (and their government-funded lifelines ending).

"The same month the coronavirus arrived in Connecticut, Mike Rowe penned an article where he asked, 'what if the cost of the cure is greater than the cost of the disease?' ([link removed]) I urge Ned Lamont to look beyond the golden dome and realize the cost this continued state of emergency is having of every citizen. Join us and sign the petition at StopKingNed.com ([link removed]) ."
