John -- A new piece in The Guardian ties Texas’ extreme new laws on abortion and voting rights back to one thing: Gerrymandering.

Headline from The Guardian: “Partisan gerrymandering has empowered a hard-right turn in Texas...This year the lines will be redrawn again and Republicans once again will have complete control of the process.”

Republicans in Texas are gearing up for yet another round of gerrymandering when their special session begins in just 4 days. Folks on the ground are testifying at redistricting hearings that began last week, as the public prepares to fight to ensure the next decade of maps are fair.

We need historic grassroots support to fight back against a Republican Party in Texas whose chairman said “Republicans control this process and must realize this strategic opportunity, and not concern themselves with ‘fairness.’”

And we’re not just fighting in Texas. We’re working to stop Republican gerrymandering in states all over the country, including Ohio, where GOP map manipulators have blatantly ignored the state constitution’s fair redistricting amendments with their new proposals:

Columbus Dispatch: “'An insult to democracy': Ohio Republicans' redistricting plan panned soon after release”

Things aren’t great in Florida, either. While state House and Senate leaders have announced which Republicans will be running the process, they haven’t announced any public hearings yet, potentially denying Floridians the opportunity to testify about how map proposals would impact their communities:

Tampa Bay Times: “Florida lawmakers announce redistricting process, but no public hearings — yet... A decade ago, leaders of the House and Senate traveled the state seeking input about how to draw the maps.”

One thing is clear: Republicans all over the country have no intention of drawing fair maps that accurately represent our communities. They’re going to manipulate the process at every turn to try and guarantee they can maintain their majorities over the next decade -- and it’s our job to fight back and stop them. But we can’t win this fight on our own. We’re counting on grassroots supporters like you to help us keep up our critical work. Can we count on you to make a donation to our drive today and help us WIN the fight for fair maps?
