My team and I have been reaching out all summer warning about the onslaught of GOP attack ads we’re getting hit with. I wanted to make sure you all knew how intense the ad spending was getting because I suspected it was going to cause us some real problems.

Then we got the poll that has us down seven points. And that solidified it for me, we’re in real trouble. I didn’t expect to be so far behind this early, but… here we are.

So, here’s how we need to fight back: Our September end-of-quarter deadline will be the most important one I’ve had in my career. We have to raise enough money to show we’re still in this race. If we don’t, then we’re in very bad shape.
