. Hi John,
RSVP now for the virtual Fair Maps Coalition Legislative Lobby Day!
Every ten years, along with the census, Wisconsin is legally obligated to redraw legislative district maps.
Unfortunately, the process has been used to gerrymander districts along party lines. This has been destructive for our personal freedom and our state. While statewide elections clearly show the majority supports issues like the freedom to vote, clean energy, and clean water, the gerrymander has forced hand-picked politicians upon constituencies.
This has contributed to a polarized legislature that either refuses to act or supports policy that does not represent voters in their districts. It’s a broken democracy, and it must be mended.
On Monday, Sept. 27, as part of the Fair Maps Coalition, we are sponsoring a special virtual lobby day focused on the fair maps process and we want you to join us.
Supporters of a fair and healthy democracy from across the state will gather virtually to meet with legislators. The Fair Maps Coalition will ask the legislature to take up the citizen-drawn People’s Maps Commission Maps and pass legislation to fix partisan gerrymandering permanently.
The lobby day will include a briefing from Senator Jeff Smith, senate author of nonpartisan redistricting legislation and will include time for training and preparation before meeting with your legislators.
This is an opportunity to show support for mending our democracy, our politics, and restoring our freedom to elect leaders who represent our values.
Join us and the coalition to make your voice heard loud and clear. Thank you and hope to see you there! Anjali Bhasin Civic Engagement Director Wisconsin Conservation Voices |
