Dear Friend,
Every day children in our region are inhaling harmful diesel exhaust, especially children who live in and around Southern California’s port communities and near our major freeways. According to the EPA, exposure to diesel exhaust can lead to serious health conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart disease, and cancer. In fact, on-road diesel vehicles were responsible for nearly 50 percent of all air pollution-related deaths worldwide in 2015 (International Council of Clean Air, 2019).
In 2020, the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino had 157 bad air days for ozone pollution – the most days above the federal health standard since 1997. In order to make a significant impact on improving air quality and air pollution, we must meaningfully address the diesel problem and End Diesel Now!
