Issue One released a new video today that highlights the alarming, outsized influence that a handful of ultra-wealthy donors have in the post-Citizens United era.
You may recall our widely-publicized “Outsized Influence” report from a few months ago which found that just 12 megadonors, at least eight of whom are billionaires, accounted for about $1 of every $13 in federal politics between January 2009 and December 2020 — a total of $3.4 billion.
The video shows why we need to get big money out of politics, and we’re dropping it as the debate in Washington about sweeping political reform is heating up.

The dominance of big money in our politics is corrupting, and it drowns out the voices of the rest of us.
It’s time for it to stop. Our government can’t be responsive to all Americans if our elected officials are beholden to the elite donor class.
As our new video says: This is a wake up call for everyone — Democrats, Republicans, and independents. Too few people have too much influence. This is why we need to fix our broken political system. Democracy should work for everyone.
