News update: Week of Prayer
======

Dear supporter,

In a deeply sad development, Westminster has overturned Northern Ireland’s pro-life abortion laws and is also on course to impose same-sex marriage on the Province.

A majority of MPs backed amendments in July to impose abortion and require the Secretary of State to redefine marriage if devolution was not restored at Stormont by yesterday.

Many have been praying regarding these serious matters, and what has happened is tragic. But we must continue to both pray and act.

There will be public consultations on same-sex marriage and abortion in the coming weeks. Please pray that many
in Northern Ireland
will respond to both consultations and highlight the harmful consequences of redefining marriage and legalising abortion.

Continue to pray for fair and widespread media coverage of the issues involved. Pray also that the final regulations laid by the Secretary of State will protect human life, liberty of conscience, and Gospel freedom.

Week of Prayer: Autumn 2019
======

20-26 October
------

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

TUESDAY ([link removed])
WEDNESDAY ([link removed])
THURSDAY ([link removed])
FRIDAY ([link removed])
SATURDAY ([link removed])

Tuesday: Family freedom
------
Parents have the primary role in raising children. Families must remain free from wrongful state interference.

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Please pray:

1. That state authorities will respect parents’ God-given role;
2. That parents won’t be criminalised for gently disciplining their own children;
3. Against any unnecessary regulation of families who home-school;
4. That Christian parents remain free to raise their children in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Wednesday: Marriage
------
No-fault divorce is the greatest attack on the married family since the introduction of same-sex marriage.

“...what God has joined together, let man not separate.” Matthew 19:6

Please pray:

1. That plans for a disastrous no-fault divorce Bill for England and Wales would not progress;
2. That people in Northern Ireland who disagree with same-sex marriage may have the same protections as those in the rest of the UK;
3. That lawmakers, the media and wider society would show greater respect for true marriage;
4. For Tony Rucinski and James Cross at the Coalition for Marriage as they seek to promote traditional marriage.

Thursday: Schools
------
Schools are under enormous pressure to conform to secular values.

“...in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

Please pray:

1. Giving thanks for the freedoms Christians do have in schools. Pray they will continue;
2. Against the teaching of gender ideology;
3. That lobby groups will not hijack Relationships Education;
4. That Ofsted inspections will be fair;
5. For Christian teachers, governors and students seeking to remain faithful to the Bible’s teaching.

Friday: Society
------
There is constant pressure to move away from God’s good instructions for his world.

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:7

Please pray:

1. For God in his mercy to grant repentance and revival in the UK;
2. That opposition to fast-track ‘sex changes’ will continue to grow;
3. For greater value to be placed on the lives of the unborn, elderly and infirm;
4. With thanks that assisted suicide is still illegal;
5. That drugs laws will not be relaxed;
6. For gambling to be more strongly regulated.

Saturday: Christian witness
------------------------------------------------------------
Acting as salt and light, we can be a Christian influence in a secular world.

“…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Please pray:

1. For more Christians to speak and act with wisdom and courage in defence of biblical truth;
2. For greater understanding among believers of the immense freedom to express our Christian faith that we still enjoy;
3. Giving thanks for the success of The Christian Institute’s Living Christianity study series.
