Friend,
Exactly one month from today, patients nationwide could be denied medical treatment because of healthcare workers' religious beliefs. That’s the new reality in our healthcare system if the Trump administration’s Denial of Care Rule goes into effect on November 22, 2019.
If this rule sounds unconscionable, unconstitutional, or flat-out unacceptable to you, you’re right. Click here to make a gift of $50 to help us defeat it in court.
As AU’s Legal Director, I’m working overtime with our talented team of attorneys to block this rule. It is an attack on the fundamental principle of church-state separation. This rule misuses the religious freedom enshrined in the Constitution, treating it like a sword to harm others when it was always intended as a shield to protect us all.
It’s obvious that the administration is targeting women, LGBTQ people, and religious minorities – but this rule invites discrimination that could run broad and deep. We as patients trust medical providers to make life-saving decisions. We share our most intimate information with them. Under this rule, that confidential information could be used not to ensure that we each get the medical care that we need, but to shame, judge, and discriminate against us.
Americans United is suing the Trump administration in TWO separate cases – one on each coast – to block this rule from going into effect. Please contribute to stop this rule before November 22, 2019.
